Only recently has venous disease been recognized as a viable sub-specialty, and this is very good news for patients...
Cardiology specializes, in not just the heart, but the entire circulatory system. As an interventional cardiologist I am able to provide a more complete analysis of the venous problems, as they relate to the body's entire blood flow and overall health.
Seeing the Need for Cardiovascular Expertise
In 1999 Steven Forman, MD, FACC joined Los Alamitos Cardiovascular and has been its managing partner since 2005. While treating patients, Dr. Forman recognized a lack of awareness regarding venous disease. "Venous disease and treatment is not very well known, so many people with the disease and often their physicians do not know there are available treatments. Everybody is aware of heart disease so there is not much education required. Venous disease has only recently been recognized as a viable sub-specialty."
Building a Practice Devoted to Venous Disease Diagnosis and Treatment
As a vascular issue with implications for the entire circulatory system — including the heart, Dr. Forman saw that vein disease and treatment should legitimately fall within the expertise of a cardiovascular specialist, i.e., a cardiologist, as opposed to a dermatologist or primary care physician.
As an interventional cardiologist, Dr. Forman's specialized training includes the branch of internal medicine that performs coronary and peripheral angioplasties and angiographies. The minimally invasive techniques for treating vein disease, endovenous ablations and sclerotherapy, require essentially the same techniques Dr. Forman had been practicing for several years. Dr. Forman concluded that his training and skill set were an excellent fit for a practice centered around venous disease diagnosis and treatment, and as a result Dr. Forman formed Performance Vein Institute of Los Alamitos.
